Hawaii Five-0 season 9 spotlight: Our hopes for Tani Rey
Of course, let’s kick things off here, first and foremost, with a little bit of praise for how Meagan Rath’s character was handled upon her arrival last season. Trying to come in and replace some other beloved characters is no easy task, especially ones like Kono and Junior who are incredibly popular with most of the fan base. Yet, Tani managed to pull that off, mostly because she wasn’t just like some of the other characters we have come to see over time. She brings some of her own vibe to the team and gives us a chance to see someone who is determined and also fiercely loyal — even if she has a history of being a bit of a rule-breaker in her own right.
So what are some of the things that we want to see for her moving forward from here? We’ve got a few different suggestions below.
1. More of her actually pushing the limits – If Tani is being devised to be a little bit of a rebel, why not lean into that even more? We want to see her doing whatever she can in order to help resolve cases out in the field, even if the going gets tough and she has to break the rules in order to have it happen. We’d be game for more of that, especially since we know her tendencies have gotten her kicked out of the Police Academy in the past.
2. Build up the relationship with Junior – We’re not even saying that it needs to get romantic in season 9; instead, we would just like to see more opportunities to have a fun rapport for these two or to see them in some unusual situations together. Take, for example, when the two took to the streets as uniform cops last season.
3. Have Tani occasionally undercover on her own – Now that she’s been a part of Five-0 for a good year, it feels like high tide for the remainder of the Task Force to trust her enough to let her do so bold things on her own. This will test her skills, and then also how valuable she is to the team in the future.
