Could Elementary season 6 episode 11 really kill Moriarty?

Elementary season 6

Entering Elementary season 6 episode 11, there are a number of different questions worth pondering … but Moriarty is at the center of many of them.

For the first time in quite a while, this name was spoken on Monday night’s new episode, and that’s exciting just from the vantage point of history. This is Sherlock’s greatest foe, and someone who is more than capable of turning his life inside out. We also know going into this episode that Moriarty wants Morland dead and knowing her, she will probably do anything and everything within her power in order to make certain that this happens.

Yet, we also know judging from the promo below that Morland wants Moriarty dead and this poses an interesting question: Could Elementary actually kill off this character without actually featuring her one more time? There is an interesting case to be made for it, mostly because you’re not seemingly getting another appearance from Natalie Dormer anytime soon. We personally wouldn’t be shocked if the series figures out a way in which to remove the Irene Adler / Jamie Moriarty version and the transfer that title over to someone else. We don’t think that they are down for a recast — they would have done it before now — but the writers remain in a real pickle with this character.

The one thing that we do feel strongly about is that removing Moriarty entirely from the equation on Monday night’s new episode feels like a mistake. It just doesn’t feel like the right way in which for Moriarty to go, much like it didn’t feel right to lose Mycroft in the way in which we did. It was just too sudden, even if the death of Mycroft seems to be doing a good job of furthering the story elsewhere.
