We’ve been waiting for a long time to learn the Vikings season 5 return date over at History, but the good news may be that the waiting is (almost) at an end. The series is returning to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 20 for a panel discussion, and we’re not sure that there is a better time out there to announce when the remaining ten episodes of this season are finally going to air.
This panel, per The Hollywood Reporter, is going to feature show creator Michael Hirst alongside Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen, Alexander Ludwig, Alex Høgh Andersen, and Georgia Hirst. The panel is slated to begin at 11:45 a.m. Pacific time in Ballroom 20, which is a nice upgrade for the series. Ballroom 20 is one of the largest rooms at the San Diego Convention Center other than Hall H, and that should afford a wide number of fans the opportunity to attend.
While of course nothing is confirmed at present, we anticipate that this panel is going to mark a great opportunity to get more information about what lies ahead, while also allowing us to see some sort of specific teaser and that aforementioned return date. It’s been so long now since History has released anything resembling substantial information on Vikings season 5 that this feels like the absolutely perfect place to share some of it. There’s going to be a large crowd eager for a little bit more information and this could be a way to satisfy.
Beyond that, though, there are some larger questions that do need to be asked soon in regards to the series’ long-term future. For example, could season 6 be the end of the road? We hope not, but as we get closer to the series returning we know that this will be something people wonder about. (We still wonder why History is waiting so long on episodes given that the cast is really far ahead in terms of filming.)
