Netflix has just released a new House of Cards season 6 teaser in response to it being Independence Day, and the theme of this one seems to be pretty darn clear: Claire Underwood celebrating some of her own independence. This promo below is simple, but also powerful and effective as Robin Wright’s character, now the President of the United States, effectively wishes herself a happy Fourth of July.
The final season of House of Cards is slated to premiere a little bit later this year, and it certainly feels clear at this point that it’s going to be a notable send-off. The start of the series was forced to deal with a number of allegations against star Kevin Spacey, which led in turn to his eventual dismissal. Since that time, Spacey has been accused of sexual misconduct and assault by many other people, and it continues to make us wonder how there is anyone out there proclaiming in response to various teasers that they miss him on the show. Was Frank Underwood a great character? Absolutely, but this is a situation where, moving forward, you can’t completely separate the character from the man who plays him. Retroactively, you can’t change the past since this was before the allegations came to light. Yet, in the future you can do the right thing and not continue to pay or show support for someone who has been accused of terrible things.
It is Claire’s turn to lead the free world now and moving into season 7, we couldn’t be more excited. House of Cards was a pioneering original series for Netflix, and in some ways it ending marks the end of an era for the streaming service. This is a show that really inspired a lot of other edgy, topical dramas, and with so many changes behind the scenes, we feel like this will only inspire the series further to push the envelope.
Hopefully, there will be some more news released regarding House of Cards season 6 in the future. Once there is some more news to report on, we will absolutely have some of it for you here.
