Psych: The Movie 2 in early discussions; schedules remain a challenge
According to a new report from TVLine, there are some early discussions happening right now about doing a follow-up to last year’s successful event, which reunited a number of the main cast members from the original version of the show. The main thing that is holding it up at the moment are the schedules for series stars James Roday and Dule Hill. Roday is a cast member on the upcoming ABC series entitled A Million Little Things. Meanwhile, Hill is now a part of a different USA series in Suits. The biggest challenge here seems to be that when one of them is filming, the other is not. Suits production started earlier this spring for season 8, and Roday should be busy through most of the summer on his new series.
Do we think that eventually, there will be a way for the stars to align so that this can happen? Absolutely, and there are many different things that we want to see in between more beloved callbacks to the original show to, of course, more Timothy Omundson. He made a small appearance in the first movie in the midst of his recovery from a stroke, but we’d love to get a larger role for him in the second movie.
Originally, the vision for Psych: The Movie was for it to be the sort of event that happens almost every year, with Shawn and Gus taking on a different sort of case. We do still think that there’s a way in which you could do these every couple of years, even with most of the cast being busy. It’s almost a good problem to have since busy schedules likely mean more potential viewers for the Psych franchise moving forward.
