It appears as though one big cliffhanger has already been resolved when it comes to Dynasty — there will not be an appearance from Natahalie Kelley as Cristal coming up in the near future.
Speaking to E! Australia in a recent interview, Kelley confirmed that she is not planning to film anything for the upcoming season. That doesn’t mean per se that the character is gone for good, but all signs appear to be that she is gone for now:
“I haven’t read anything for season 2 … I know that I end up with a gunshot wound and in a fire at the end of season 1, and I know that I won’t be filming season 2.
“I won’t be returning for season 2…I don’t know storyline[-wise] what they’ll do. Is it a coma? Is it death? Is it who knows? I actually don’t know. But I know that I’m not going to Atlanta in July, that I’m staying here [in L.A.], and I’ve got my life back.”
What will this mean for the show? Mostly, that they will need to move on and try to find a new villain. Beyond that, though, we do think that Dynasty really needs to find more than anything else something buzzworthy to get people talking about them again. One of the biggest problems that the first season had was trying to find a stable audience for the show but with the move to Friday nights coming up, there’s probably going to be a lot less pressure in that department. With that, we imagine that there are going to be some possibilities for the show to grow — you almost have to expect the worst when it comes to the ratings but then also hope that there is a chance to turn things around.
