Luke Cage season 3 renewal odds: Will Mike Colter return to Netflix?

Luke Cage season 2 trailer

Is a Luke Cage season 3 renewal going to happen at Netflix leading up to the season 2 premiere? In this article, let’s take a longer look at the subject.

In just looking at this situation from the outside, the simple answer here is that, most likely, there’s going to be another batch of episodes for this show. We do think that there are some more great stories to tell within this world, much as there are for many other shows within Netflix’s overall Marvel universe. They haven’t shown any indication that they are planning to slow things down with any of these shows, though it does feel as though they aren’t planning to do any more of The Defenders in the near future.

We feel like following the Luke Cage season 2 premiere, Netflix will wait a few weeks (at least) before making a decision, largely because this is precisely the sort of thing that they do. They don’t often like to rush things along and we certainly don’t think that they will do so here … but we also don’t exactly think that there’s any reason to be concerned over cancellation. Disney has already indicated that their upcoming streaming service doesn’t equate to bad news for some of their Marvel properties at Netflix — as a matter of fact, these in some ways belong here given that they are probably too dark to air on something that is geared to be a little more family-friendly.

If we had to guess, our feeling is that more season 3 details will be available following the potential renewal news. You don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself, after all! Plus, a big part of the series’ future is probably going to be heavily dependent on what happens at the end of season 2. (What we would like to see are more ways to incorporate the other shows into Luke Cage, without of course making the entire show a crossover.)
