NCIS: New Orleans season 5 spotlight: What’s next for Dwayne Pride?

NCIS: New Orleans season 3 finale review

Welcome to our NCIS: New Orleans season 5 spotlight series! Over the course of the next several weeks, we’re going to highlight what could be coming for many different members of the core cast.

Today, that means in particular looking at none other than Dwayne Pride! Scott Bakula is the engine that makes the show go and over the course of this show, we’ve absolutely seen this character go through some ups and downs. While he’s had some victories here and there and some advancements in his personal life, he’s also starting off this season with his life on the line.

As we reported previously, there’s probably close to a 0% chance that Pride dies in the cliffhanger that carries over to the start of this season. With that in mind, one of the things that we’re wondering is simply this: What comes beyond the cliffhanger? What sort of stories should the writers give Pride from here?

Let’s start things off with this idea: Focusing several episodes on his recovery. Maybe Laurel comes into town and helps him, or this serves as a good opportunity to get Chelsea Field back on the show. Or, maybe we get to see some of the other team members step up and carry more of the load. We’re sure that there will be a time jump that amounts for some of Pride’s recovery time, but it feels like a wasted opportunity to just come back at the start of the season with him doing all better.

Beyond just all of this, one other thing that we want to see is some evolution when it comes to how New Orleans perceives Pride. He was labeled a scapegoat and a criminal at times at the end of this past season, but is he actually held in high regard now? That’s something that we’re certainly curious about. He’s worthy of respect but with the sentiment towards law enforcement, that may not be something that he receives.

Finally, it would just be nice to get a good long-term story for the bar beyond just some performances here and there. Why not give Dwayne something to keep him busy when he’s not at work? It does feel like there’s a lot of creativity that the writers could explore here, provided that they want to focus more on a character’s private life.
