The Nanny revival being considered, claims Fran Drescher

The Nanny

Is it possible that there could be a The Nanny revival at some point in the future? As we celebrate 25 years since the show’s official release, it feels like something that may actually happen … at least if series star Fran Drescher has something to say about it.

Speaking to ET Online about the idea of reviving her old series, which aired originally on CBS and was the product of Drescher and Peter Marc Jacob, the actress had the following to say about it:

“We’re talking about it. Peter and I are talking about it … We’re working on a very big project. It’s going to be very exciting for the fans, but I’m not at liberty to announce it yet. But it’s gonna be big.

“She would’ve maybe gotten involved in more things [that] Fran Drencher is involved with … All kinds of things from environmental issues, to health, to civil liberties, that’s what I think Fran would be doing now– opening her big Queens mouth for the greater good.”

Personally, we do think that The Nanny is a distinct enough show to succeed in the present-day climate and there is not a whole lot out there that is exactly like it. However, at the same time do you really need a new version of The Nanny? It’s possible that Fran and Peter are working on something very different, but a revival is obviously the sort of thing that would generate the largest overall headlines for them — and for a very understandable reason.

If anything happens here in the future, we’ll have the news for you here. For the time being, though, CBS already has another revival on tap in Murphy Brown, which is going to be happening during the 2018-19 season.
