Luther season 5 is coming your way potentially later this year (at least that’s what we want to assume by the words “coming soon”), and judging from the first teaser, things are going to be intense!
The promo that CarterMatt has for you below features none other than Idris Elba’s John Luther front and center, seemingly either out of breath or enormously stressed-out. One way or another, we don’t think that this is giving a whole lot away in terms of what is coming up … not that we really expected that. Luther is one of those shows that the BBC would not give a single second of footage away on in advance since they know that everyone will be tuning in regardless of how much promotion they do. This is a show that is all about being in the moment and being surprised … and we certainly think that there are going to be many different surprises coming up.
Basically, each season of Luther is in some ways the worst time of John’s life and we don’t think that this is going to change at all in the near future. It’s odd how we tend to find our viewing enjoyment in his misery, but such as it is. He’s a tormented soul that at times channels his inner darkness into making sure that he does the best overall job that he can. There are already many questions that we have about the upcoming season of Luther including if it’s even remotely possible that Alice is still out there, but we’re going to have to wait to learn more about that.
One thing that is important to note here is this: There is no sign in this preview that Luther season 5 is being designed as the final one. With that, there is still at least a chance that we could see this series continue at some point in the future. It really has been about whether or not Elba and creator Neil Cross feel like there is more story to tell when it comes to this character.
