The Affair season 4 episode 2 preview: What’s next for Cole, Alison?

Following tonight’s premiere episode, The Affair season 4 episode 2 is set to come on Showtime Sunday night — with that, we also anticipate that there are many emotional stories coming up as a result of that. This is a show that is topical without having to try to be, and also in a near-constant state of introspection. It’s one of the most personal shows that is out there and through the fourth season, we imagine that there will be some more opportunities in order to see that continue.

Below, The Affair season 4 episode 2 synopsis offers up some additional insight regarding what is coming up next as a whole:

Cole tries to keep Alison’s behavior from ruining an important deal while Luisa’s legal status threatens their future. An encounter with a local surfer leads Cole to question if he’s the same person he used to be. Alison is saved by a handsome stranger.

This fourth season seems to be based around living in the now, but also trying to look ahead towards whatever the future could be. Cole, for example, needs to figure out who he is in order to see if he can move forward. As for Alison, we’re just glad that she seems to still have an important role coming up after she was MIA for much of the season.

One other thing that we’re going to offer in the weeks ahead in these articles on The Affair are some ratings updates! The show averaged around 650,000 viewers weekly in its first season and our hope here is that it will find a way to match them. Unfortunately, season 3 was down more than 20% in live viewers versus the one that came before it. Here’s to hoping that there is not the same sort of significant decline this time around. Who doesn’t want to see the series make it to a season 5?
