Does Siren season 2 have a good shot at even stronger ratings?
At the moment, we know that everyone over at the network is feeling pretty darn happy with the performance of the series. Siren season 1 was a breakout smash hit for the network, averaging in the live numbers over a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and over 660,000 viewers. These numbers increased significantly when DVR viewing was factored in, which led in turn to the network ordering a larger season 2.
Now, is there a good chance that the show is going to perform even better going into a second season? We do think there are a few different reasons to suspect that this could happen.
1. Promotion – Freeform, at least through their social channels, has done a really wonderful job of making sure that viewers are aware that the show is out there. Not only that, but there’s a pretty good contingent of fans doing everything in their part to better spread the word. Word-of-mouth marketing is one of the most important things for a series like this that has a fairly young following at the heart of it.
2. Episode count – While it may not be ideal for the first season of Siren to have only ten episodes, in the long run it’s probably for the best. This is a short-enough batch of episodes that it enables viewers to catch up prior to the start of season 2. Once potential new viewers start to stare at more than 20 episodes to get caught up, it’s a little more daunting.
3. Mermaid popularity – We don’t foresee this as a trend slowing down anytime soon, especially with a live-action version of The Little Mermaid currently planned over at Disney. We feel like there’s going to be even more attention put on mermaids in the near future.
