Sherlock season 5: Benedict Cumberbatch still keeping door open

It feels like very few months there comes a time when we need to have an obligatory Sherlock season 5 update — after all, we need to on some level keep throwing the idea out there into the universe to ensure that it actually happens! This is a show that is worthy of more given the quality of the first four seasons, and beyond just that, it’s a show that we do will believe will come back in some form. The more that the cast and producers talk about it, the more we have some hope.

For Benedict Cumberbatch, the most important thing is that he is keeping the door open … though it doesn’t seem as though he is also in any hurry to come back to the series. Here is some of what he had to say on that subject via Deadline:

“As far as wanting to do Sherlock, I am having a great time at the moment doing other things, but we never say never.”

For the time being, Cumberbatch can continue to ride the wave that he is on, which is all about balancing out some of his film work with also theater and some television roles here and there. That includes his work in both Patrick Melrose and The Child in Time from this past year, which have thrust him back into awards consideration once more. Sherlock could again in the future if he chooses to revisit it, but we don’t see it happening for at least another two years, if not longer. It really just comes down to the right combination of interest and scheduling. With how busy this entire group is, the latter can be quite a bit issue.
