Outlander season 4 filming: What’s left for the cast?

At the moment, Outlander season 4 filming is nearing the end of the road — but just how much more of it is there to do?

Given that the show’s producers (understandably) do not release publicly any sort of filming schedule for the series, there are many questions hovering around out there in terms of what has been done with the series, and also how much more there is left to do to go along with it.

With the schedule being what it is right now, the safe assumption is that by June 30th, everyone is going to be wrapped up for the season. Many actors on the show have already booked appearances at The Land Con 2 in Paris (which starts on the 30th), and we like to think that those dates were booked with the knowledge that production would be likely done by then. Obviously schedules can change and we’ve certainly seen cancellations from events in the past, but this seems to be the likely scenario by now.

Also, remember that many cast members already have booked other projects for later on in the summer. for people like Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, they have to prepare for filming of their next projects — feature films! Production on those may start fairly quickly once Outlander is done, and there may not be a whole lot of time in between especially if filming ends at the very end of the month.

As of late, production seems to be centered around big, outdoor sequences. We posted earlier about some First Nations performers who have gone overseas to film in Scotland, and indications are that there are more scenes on location still to be filmed. The table read for the season 4 finale happened earlier this week, so the safe assumption is that production will certainly last beyond Friday. Otherwise, why are you having a table read when there is so much work still to be done?

Following the completion of filming, the Outlander post-production team can get started on editing everything together and scoring it properly before the show premieres on Starz this November. Hopefully, there will be more news on that in due time.
