Another Twin Peaks revival is still possible — but don’t count on it

Twin Peaks season 4

Last year’s return of Twin Peaks to the air was certainly a journey for many people. it was weird, it was ethereal, and in some ways it was polarizing. There were a number of die-hard fans who loved it, and we do have a feeling that Showtime would benefit greatly from the subscribers if David Lynch decides to make any more in the future.

Yet, one year removed from the revival airing, it does not appear as though things are any clearer at all regarding whether or not more will eventually happen. All that we can say is that some cast members seem to be open to going back if given the chance. For an example of that, just take a look at what Kyle MacLachlan had to say in an interview on the subject to Deadline:

I think those kinds of things are certainly possible. I think we’re all just waiting on David to have the spark of an idea to go forward. It’d be a great journey. I would drop everything to do that.

Personally, we see this almost as a maybe-project that could come up in a year or two years time. The whole part of speculating on this that is so difficult is that David Lynch himself in somewhat of an enigma. He could come out three years from now saying that he wants to make 30 more episodes, or he could say almost nothing about it for the remainder of his career. Theratings for the revival weren’t necessarily great, but what really matters to Showtime more than anything else are the subscribers. All indications are that this was a subscriber-driver to the service in a way that very few other shows have been. That’s huge for them, given that this as an opportunity to get viewers hooked on some other programming, as well.

For the time being, we don’t have any expectation for more Twin Peaks. It’s almost unfair to even think about that given the fact that we never had any expectations that there would be a Revival in the first place.
