MTV developing live-action Aeon Flux series
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is working alongside Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis, and also executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, to adapt a new version of the Aeon Flux story. This show was first known as an animated product over on MTV many years ago; more recently it is probably well known for the disaster live-action movie that starred Charlize Theron and Jonny Lee Miller. Given the importance of tech in today’s world, it is not altogether hard to envision ways in which an Aeon Flux television series could be relevant in 2018. It’s also important to remember as well that Aeon isn’t exactly a hero (in her own mind she may be) and in many ways her ways of going about things borderline on villainous. That being said we could easily see MTV trying to spin Aeon into some sort of hero.
For those wondering, having Hurd on board does ensure that there is someone who understands the Aeon Flux story fairly well. She was an executive producer on the Charlize Theron movie, in addition to her work on The Walking Dead and many other franchises.
This is still a project in very early development and it may never end up actually airing on MTV at all. We just like the fact that the network is actually looking at a scripted property right now. After the end of Teen Wolf and with the network not being in all that much of a hurry to air season 3 of Scream, we’ve had some questions for a while as to what in the world that they are doing when it comes to scripted shows. As a matter of fact, we started to think that they were giving up. Aeon Flux in some ways is a safe property for them to look at, mostly because they already know that they have an audience for it and it is an internal property. Davis also certainly showed with Teen Wolf that he knows how to reach MTV viewers.
What do you think, at least in theory, about the idea of an Aeon Flux series? Do you think there are any good contenders for a lead role? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments.
