Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger ratings start solid at Freeform

Cloak & Dagger

The first Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger ratings are in over at Freeform, and with that the network has a lot to be reasonably excited about.

The first two episodes, which aired back to back over the course of Thursday night, ended up generating on average close to 840,000 viewers and a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. For a cable network like Freeform, they have to be very much pleased with some of the numbers. For starters, these numbers are pretty comparable to the 870,000 viewers and the 0.3 rating that Siren premiered with earlier this year — and this was one of the best starts for an original series on the network in quite some time. Cloak & Dagger had an additional disadvantage in that it premiered in the summer, which is hardly a time where shows often get good ratings since there are so many other things television viewers could be doing.

In general, we think it’s a victory anytime Freeform gets a show that draws anywhere close to these sort of numbers in an era where there are more and more viewers who are choosing to watch programming via some other means, whether it be Netflix, DVR, or On-Demand — basically, programming that fits their own schedule. The people who all chose to check out the Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger premiere actually chose to do so love, regardless of the fact that there were some other things on the air that they could check out instead. We do absolutely believe that there is a good bit of credit that needs to be given to some of these viewers for that alone.

Also, if these ratings keep up like this over the rest of the season, we feel absolutely confident that there is going to be another season coming up at some point in the future. How in the world would Freeform not be eager about finding a way to keep this going?
