Why does NBC have a little bit more time to potentially make a decision on Timeless than some of their other shows? There are some reasons for this and most of them start back with the timeline (time travel puns intended) in which the show is produced.
If the series was starting up its writers room at roughly the same time as some other series (think along the lines of Chicago Fire, Arrow, or The Good Doctor), there would have had to be a decision already on the future of the show. Yet, because of both A) the shorter episode order for Timeless and B) the time in which it premieres now, there’s a little more wiggle room thrown in there.
Last year, the Timeless writers room opened in September, a couple of months before production formally started in November. Therefore, there’s plenty of time for Shawn Ryan, Eric Kripke, and the rest of the team to get together scripts for what will hopefully be a thoroughly-entertaining season 3.
Basically, the delay in the renewal all but guarantees that season 3 likely would not premiere any earlier than season 2; we still think that the summer is an interesting possibility, but whether or not NBC wants to make that move remains to be seen. We do think that a decision will be coming over the next few weeks, though, mostly because it’s pretty unusual for a network to wait longer than that for a series that aired during the TV season proper (September-May). Then again, we usually don’t have to wait this long either…

Take a look below to see some of the latest magic via the show’s writers room! This comes via the season 1 finale and for those of you who are Rufus/Jiya fans, we have a good feeling that you are going to enjoy this one. Hopefully, there are more goodies in store for all of us while we wait for season 3 news. Fingers crossed it’s positive.
