Nashville season 6 spoilers: Charles Esten on dark times ahead for Deacon
For Deacon in particular, this final stretch of episodes is going to get a chance to really explore everything — with this being the end, the writers decided that it would be best to put all of the cards on the table and tie up just about every loose end they wanted to throw out there. This is something that Charles Esten, who plays the character so fantastically, explains further in a new interview via TVInsider:
“Because we knew we were ending the show in the final half season, we could have just glided to a finish … But we end up going back to the deepest wounds, the oldest wounds, which are from Deacon’s relationship with his father all the way back to his childhood. It was absolutely rewarding to me that we didn’t leave Deacon without exploring the deepest part. And I got to do it with the great Ronny Cox.”
Cox is playing Deacon’s estranged father and we imagine that the two are going to go through hell as they piece together their relationship — if there is one to be pieced together — over this final stretch of episodes. There is, after all, another major plot point to be taken on here in the relationship between Deacon and Jessie. Their storyline had a rocky finish in the first half of season 6 and there’s very little evidence things are about to get any easier.
