The Originals alum Danielle Campbell books big Tell Me a Story role

CBS All Access - Danielle Campbell

Following her time as Davina on The OriginalsDanielle Campbell has landed another prominent TV role in CBS All Access’ ambitious series Tell Me a Story.

According to a report from Deadline, Campbell is joining the psychological thriller, which is basically going to be a re-imagining of many fairy-tales into things that are ultimately incredibly dark and twisted. The first season is going to weave together stories inspired by “The Three Little Pigs,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” and also “Hansel and Gretel.” The show also stars Billy Magnussen and Kim Catrall, so there are some names here that are intriguing right from the jump.

As for Campbell’s specific role, she is going to be taking on the part of Kayla. Take a look at her character description below:

“Beautiful and full of anger, Kayla has just moved from Oakland to New York with her dad. She lost her mother a year ago and since then has strayed from her once promising path — hanging with the wrong crowd, partying… anything to distract from the pain and grief of her mother’s death.”

Catrall will play Kayla’s grandmother on the show, so it’s clear that the stories of these two characters will be interwoven in a fairly substantial manner. There is also a rather interesting connection between this new show’s writer in Kevin Williamson and Campbell’s past work The Originals — he was one of the original architects for The Vampire Diaries, the series that in turn led to The Originals coming into existence.

Given that Tell Me a Story has a straight-to-series order, our current expectation is that this is a project that will probably make it onto the air at some point in 2019. Once there is some additional insight to share on this subject, we will have that for you here.
