Suits season 8 promo puts the focus heavy on Katherine Heigl
We’ve heard some of the diehard fan response to this promo already and to a certain extent, we get it. Harvey, Donna, and Louis are the three original characters who are still on the series and we of course want to see them get some time in the spotlight. We hope that when some of these new episodes actually air, that will happen.
As for why it’s not happening here, the simple answer we can offer is that USA isn’t trying to market the show towards their loyal fans — the assumption is that they will watch and give the new iteration of the show a chance regardless of who is a part of it. Instead, they are marketing more towards some of the people who are either on the fence and haven’t watched at all. Heigl may be polarizing to some viewers, but she is fairly well-known thanks to her role on Grey’s Anatomy. That’s a big launching pad for the show and we do want the ratings to remain fairly steady. It’s going to be a big challenge, especially since losing Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle is not the sort of thing that a show recovers easily from. They were the cornerstones for the first seven seasons of the show and it’s going to be interesting to see what happens from here.
Suits season 8 officially premieres on USA come July 18.
