The Gifted season 2: Empire star Grace Byers joins as new regular

Gifted episode 2

The Gifted season 2 hasn’t wasted too much time at all getting Grace Byers following her time over on Fox’s Empire.

According to TVLine, the actress (best known for playing Anika until — spoiler alert — the character’s untimely death) is set to play a character named Reeva. The description reads that she is a “smart, charming, authoritative, elegant, beautiful woman who is ruthless in her efforts to fight for her people. She leads an elite band of followers and has a soft spot for her new recruits, but is still capable of extreme violence in defense of her vision.” She is going to be working with Polaris, Andy, and the Frost Sisters in what is being called “The Inner Circle.”

Basically, this marks a chance for Byers to play evil all over again and we think that’s very much exciting.

In general, we do want to see The Gifted get a nice bump going into season 2 since it’ll probably need it for many different reasons. For starters, the show has been off the air for such a long time already that there is a risk viewers are going to forget about it when it’s back. Beyond just that, Fox has shown a tendency these days to be very liberal when it comes to cutting shows — just ask fans of Lucifer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or The Last Man on Earth how they are feeling at the moment. While Brooklyn Nine-Nine found itself a new home over at NBC, the other two remain very much in waiting.

The Gifted season 2 will premiere on Fox this fall on Tuesday nights, where it will be paired with Lethal Weapon — another show that is going to need a Herculean effort to combat some of the negativity that has been surrounding it as of late.
