Legends of Tomorrow season 4: Keiynan Lonsdale not returning as regular

Legends of Tomorrow

It’s now official: Keiynan Lonsdale will not be back on Legends of Tomorrow season 4 in the capacity of a series regular — at least for the time being.

This news is coming in now via TVLine, and it comes after the actor was not featured in some of the promotional material for the upcoming season. Judging from the way in which The Flash season 4 ended it felt as though he has a place there in the immediate future, and the site does confirm that he will be around for the season 5 premiere. Beyond that, though, it doesn’t feel as though anything is locked into place for the time being.

If we had it our way, we’d certainly find a way to include Keiynan somewhere, mostly because he’s such an effervescent character who brings a great energy to these shows that you don’t get anywhere else. As for the reasoning why we are not getting him, there are always a lot of potential reasons for that but it’s long felt like the shows haven’t quite known what to do with him. That was more or less directly addressed on The Flash when Wally opted to leave because he didn’t feel like he was being included in some of the missions and with that, didn’t think that STAR Labs really had a use for him. Instead, he went on a journey to find himself elsewhere before joining the Legends and helping in the final battle against Mallus.

The scripts for Legends of Tomorrow season 4 are already being written — if you haven’t heard, both Matt Ryan (Constantine) and Jes Macallen (Ava) have been promoted to regular and you will be seeing a whole lot more of them. Head over here to check out some of the first story details.
