Tonight, Game 2 of the NBA Finals is taking place between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors in California — with that in mind, we had at the center of the hour a pretty memorable performance from none other than Carlos Santana.
In the video below, you can see a performance from Santana of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that was really like no other. There are few people who can do a guitar rendition of the Anthem in a way that works — Jimi Hendrix is one and Carlos Santana is another. He did a really good job with this, both in terms of keeping the song moving along and also getting most of the audience and players on his side. In general, this may be one of the highest-energy Anthems that we’ve ever seen.
Yet, we do have one question: Are the drums really necessarily? Probably not, but this did give the performance a musical flourish that we haven’t seen before elsewhere. The ending of it was absolutely electric and that did set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Moving beyond Game 2, we are interested to see who Cleveland brings out for the Anthem in Game 3 — they could bring a local musician in to do the Anthem who is well-known by many viewers, or they could go with someone local who is more of a good-luck charm or someone they relied upon during the regular season.
Now, we just hope that this game is somewhat similar to what we had with game 1 — that was one of the most incredible games we’ve seen in some time. That’s especially true for social-media, who absolutely had a field day with most of what transpired from start to finish.
