For anyone out there anxious to get the first Doctor Who season 11 trailer, we have some news that may make many of you rather happy — you could be getting it very much in the near future!
There are a number of rumors around the internet at this point (Doctor Who Today on Twitter is saying that it is confirmed, but we have not seen that anywhere else) suggesting that the upcoming trailer could premiere on June 18 after England’s first World Cup match. If this does turn out to be the case, it certainly feels like a sensible time in order to launch it. This is a time in which there will be a lot of eyeballs on British television and for the BBC, the goal here isn’t so much to launch the trailer at a time in which it will appear to fans of the long-running show only. Instead, it makes a little more sense to launch it at a time in which there are the most viewers possible watching, including many who do not check out the show regularly. A big part of the lifeblood that is Doctor Who is figuring out ways to get new viewers.
It is very much clear already that the upcoming season of Doctor Who is going to be different than most before it — having the first-ever female Doctor (played by Jodie Whittaker) is one major step towards making that happen. Another is having a larger group of main characters and potentially switching up some of the story structure with new showrunner Chris Chibnall at the helm.
There are already rumors aplenty about the contents of said trailer but we don’t want to give too much away there; after all, there is a big difference between trailer launch rumors and also rumors that could be major spoilers if true. All we care about is giving a fascinating trailer with fun reveals and some Doctor Who nostalgia mixed in.
