At the moment, we are all in the midst of a long and very-agonizing waiting game when it comes to True Detective season 3. There is no word as of yet regarding when it will premiere — all we can say is that for the better part of 2018, production has been underway in Arkansas.
The question that we do want to pose at the moment is this: What would be the best time in which to bring the show back for more? Is there a time that could generate some of the best ratings? We do think that there are a few possibilities that stand out as notable.
Early January – This seems to be the most appealing to us, largely because season 1 of the show aired in January and with less competition on the air in the early going, season 3 may be able to build a fanbase. The downside here is that HBO would eventually be up against the likes of the NFL playoffs and awards season, but given that they don’t need live viewers to be successful, are they really going to care.
Alongside Game of Thrones – There is no precise start date as of yet for the new season but if we had it our way, this would be perfect. What better way to get big ratings than to premiere the show after HBO’s biggest hit? The only reason that the network may choose not to do this is so they can launch a completely-new property that could need that lead-in a little more. True Detective, even after a messy season 2, should survive on its own.
The summer – This seems like a long time to wait for a show that is currently filming now, but given the fact that HBO also has Big Little Lies season 2 to slot in somewhere, it is feasible that we end up waiting that long to see this series back in action.
