At this point, you’ve all heard some of the rampant rumors and tabloid stories about Aidan Turner of Poldark fame becoming the next James Bond and it’s easy to see why the idea is popular. After all, he is a popular actor on a UK series, he’s got the talent to pull it off, and there’s a presumption that an casting serach for a new Bond will happen before too long.
Typically, we don’t think there’s a whole lot of merit in diving into some of this gossip, mostly because the majority of the stories that are out there are unconfirmed tabloid reports that really do not reveal much of anything. Yet, it’s a little bit different when it is actually Aidan Turner himself who actually speaks out about it. In a recent interview per Irish Tatler Man, Aidan makes his openness in regards to taking on this role pretty darn clear, noting that he could see himself playing the role before adding the following:
“But it is more important if other people see me in that role … It would be fun and I know a lot of people have talked about it but we will just have to wait and see.”
Without openly campaigning for the part himself that is really all that Turner can say on the subject. It’s clear that he does have an interest in the part, but there’s also a reserved sentiment here that he doesn’t want to say too much and, in turn, put himself in a position where it is an enormous disappointment if the gig doesn’t happen. The reality here remains that the Poldark production team hasn’t really announced all that much in the way of a shortlist as to why they would like to see in the role. That’s what really matters and to date, the folks behind the scenes of the franchise aren’t really at the point to where they are focusing on that. All of “this person is likely to get the role” talk is mostly just media outlets getting attention for himself. Hearing that Turner is interested at least has some substance to it.
