The Originals season 5: Joseph Morgan on big character death

The Originals season 4 episode 6 return date

Wednesday night’s new episode of The Originals is one that we imagine many fans remembering for some time … but not necessarily for the happiest of reasons. This episode, after all, marks seemingly the final appearance of Phoebe Tonkin and her character of Hayley Marshall.

Should we officially write this character off for good? Probably not, largely because this is The Originals and they’ve done a ton of crazy stuff over the years. However, for the time being it does appear as though Hayley’s sacrifice is the last we are going to see of her. We know that for Klaus in particular, he has to see it that way. That’s rather problematic given the fact that he is now a single father, and has to contemplate what his life may end up looking like without Hayley in it.

In reacting to the exit of Phoebe Tonkin per TV Guide, here is what Joseph Morgan had to say:

“He really feels the weight and responsibility of being the only parent … That’s tremendously difficult for him to deal with. I feel like Hayley’s always been a much better parent than him, and she spent the time — she’s spent the last seven years, while he’s been away, with Hope, and so for him to come back after such a long absence and then to be thrown into this situation where, ‘Hey it’s just you now with your daughter,’ it’s a very steep learning curve for him. So that’s tremendously upsetting.”

Will Klaus be able to figure things out? Maybe, but the best thing for him at this point would be to start to drift closer to his family. The unfortunate thing that comes along with that, though, is the magic that still holds over some of them. Getting the family back together may end up being key to some of these characters’ survival — you also have to remember here that Hope is not quite out of the woods yet, either.
