Famous in Love season 3 renewal, cancellation debate: What’s next?
Here is what we can tell you — based on some of the latest live+same-day ratings alone, the Freeform drama is in a fairly tight spot. It’s in some serious danger, and we don’t want to beat around the bush here at all. So far this season, Famous in Love is averaging a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and almost 260,000 viewers. These are both down from the season 1 ratings, and that’s when you consider the fact that the first season also was available for streaming in advance.
There is still a major caveat in here, and that is that the majority of Famous in Love viewers are not watching live. Freeform knows that and this is why, in part, there are so many other venues in which you can watch the show — think in terms of online or via the app. Are these ratings really enough? Without all of the information available, it’s really difficult to gauge. We just know that the show has had two opportunities to succeed now and often, this is when networks may cut the cord when they determine when an idea isn’t working.
What we will say here, at least for now, is that there is plenty more story to tell creatively within the world of Famous in Love. Hollywood is one of those settings where there is never going to be an absence of stories to be told. We can imagine this show taking on some timely and interesting topics coming up, and this could be one of its saving graces: Freeform can really use it as a venue to take on newsworthy stories and get them on the air. Whether or not that is enough to lead to a renewal, though, remains to be seen. We should know a formal decision in the months to come.
