The Resident season 2: Where should Conrad and Nic go from here?
At the moment, I certainly have my doubts when it comes to the abilities of these two characters to stay together long-term, but I also have my doubts about them finding anyone else. One of the beautiful things about this relationship in season 1 was that there was so much unspoken depth between these two characters. It’s almost where they need each other when they aren’t together, but when they are, something figures out how to get in the way.
What’s one of their biggest problems? It seems to be mostly Conrad’s inability to emotionally connect. He’s someone who wears his rebel badge proudly, but also without realizing in the process that this said badge can also occasionally get him into trouble. He can become so transfixed on something that it allows him to function in a way that is indicative of a normal human being, and it goes without saying that Nic wants a certain degree of normalcy within her life. Why wouldn’t she?
Yet, moving into season 2 I see a pretty big reason for them to be together: What they just went through with Lane! After fighting that fight together and showing that they can be each other’s emotional rock, there is plenty of reason to believe that they are going to continue to fight for each other. The problem could come the moment that Conrad gets another case that he becomes transfixed on. Nic at that point may know that Conrad loves her, but will that compensate for some of the stress? Moving into the second season, this is one of the issues that the relationship has — to go along with a lot of baggage that just won’t go away.
As for why they’re a popular ‘ship in the first place, that’s easy to figure out. The two are passionate, supportive, and they fight for one another. The two are at times so strong that it contributes to them clashing, but that strength brings them back to each other when the going gets tough.
