Charmed reboot actress offers defense, talks new version
Do we understand much of the backlash? Sure, mostly because the original Charmed is precious to so many people — they grew up on the show, and they don’t necessarily want to see a new show arrive to the party and hurt its reputation. It’s hard to accept something coming in and trying to fill a similar void.
Yet, we also think that the message below from Charmed reboot star Sarah Jeffrey also has a ton of merit. She’s not asking anyone to change their opinion about the original show — she just wants the new version of the show to be given a chance, as well. Do we think that they deserve that? Absolutely. There are probably hundreds of thousands of potential Charmed viewers out there in 2018 who never saw the original and without this show, would never be introduced to this universe. If this show is bringing something that is fun, positive, and refreshing to the property, what is there to be upset about? Nothing in this series will take away from what was there in the original.
Also, is anyone forgetting that Jennie Snyder Urman is involved here? Given her work on Jane the Virgin, a show other people doubted before it turned out to be great, she deserves the benefit of the doubt. We don’t know if the new Charmed will be great and we do wish that some of the promotion pre-upfronts had been a little bit different, but this is a show absolutely worthy of a chance.
Just remember that for all of the negatively out there, hardly anyone outside of the industry has actually seen the pilot. There’s probably a good many complaining about the reboot who haven’t even watched the trailer.
We will have some more news on the Charmed revival as more news comes out — if you want to get all of our news the moment that it’s written, we simply suggest that you like CarterMatt on Facebook right now. (Photo: The CW.)
