NCIS season 16: Rocky Carroll on Vance’s uncertain future

Rocky Carroll leaving

Is Rocky Carroll leaving NCIS and the role of Leon Vance? While we’re hopeful that the character will make it through, it’s also not like NCIS Directors have a great history of making it through tough situations on the show in the past. (Sorry to bring back tough memories of Jenny.)

Anyhow, the big cliffhanger entering the hiatus at the moment is the state of Vance, but for the time being it doesn’t appear as though the character’s future is clear once way or another. Carroll is staying mum on the subject in a post on Twitter — personally, we’re hopeful that there will be more for Vance still, mostly because he’s a strong character who seems capable of getting himself out of super-difficult binds. Beyond just that, we’ve also just had Clayton Reeves killed off and Abby depart the team. The idea of losing another series regular so soon would be almost too much to bear. Plus, Vance has got a ton to live for!

Alas, we don’t think you are going to get a chance to learn Vance’s fate one way or another for quite some time … or at the very least, until filming kicks off a little bit later in the summer. These endings are called cliffhangers for a reason, and producers obviously don’t want to tip their hat too much one way or another in terms of what way this story is going to be going.

When will NCIS season 16 start filming?

Usually it happens in either July or August, and of course we’ll get you some more information around then. We do anticipate some changes in the cast with the recent departures in mind, but hopefully Vance is going to be fighting back and sticking around. Carroll’s a great presence both onscreen and off, as he has also directed multiple episodes of the series to date.
