The Chew canceled by ABC, will make way for more Good Morning America
In a statement, Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood had the following to say about the decision:
“For seven years, The Chew has delighted audiences by delivering innovative food segments in an entertaining atmosphere … We applaud and thank Gordon Elliott, Aimee Householder, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and the entire cast and crew for their great work and amazing run. And we wish them the very best.”
This news is certainly sad for many of the people out there who loved the show; personally, we just wish that it had an opportunity to go out on a little bit of a lighter note than where it is now in the aftermath of the sexual misconduct allegations against former co-host Mario Batali. The chef was fired from his job on the show months ago; unfortunately, we aren’t going to get an opportunity to see the show continue to evolve without him. (While Batali was not accused of any misconduct on the show itself, ABC still made the move due to the severity of the claims elsewhere.)
Here is one of the strange things about the cycle of television — many years ago, there were people upset and angry about ABC ending One Life to Live and All My Children to make way, in part, for The Chew. Now, there are many people out there unhappy about the fact that The Chew is being taken off the air for Good Morning America.
