Agents of SHIELD season 6 premiere date hopes, other details

Following tonight’s big finale, are you curious as to what the Agents of SHIELD season 6 premiere date could be? If so, we like to think that this article is for you!

Unfortunately, we do need to kick things off here with some rather-sad news that you’re going to be waiting for a while. Even though ABC recently renewed the superhero series starring Clark Gregg for another season, it is not going to be coming on the air until we get around to the summer of 2019. Earlier this week at upfronts, the network’s programming head in Channing Dungey made it clear that this was an ABC decision and not a direct consequence of the MASSIVE cliffhanger at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. If that is the case, it is certainly a happy coincidence for Marvel Studios.

One of the complications that comes with Infinity War (movie spoilers ahead) is that a significant part of the Earth’s population is wiped out due to Thanos. Therefore, it’s certainly possible that many members of SHIELD are also gone. If season 6 were to premiere this fall or at midseason, the writers would have needed to compensate for that on the show … which could have, in turn, led to the absence of many cast members. It makes more sense logistically to keep us waiting for a little while.

Given that Agents of SHIELD season 6 is not premiering until the summer, one of the things that we are really hoping to see is it not being stuck on Friday nights again. This is a show that really deserves a better timeslot and with that, an absolutely fantastic chance to shine. If ABC really is seeing if they can find a way to make the show last beyond season 6, we’re hoping that they really commit to making this a fantastic summer event series. Only doing 13 episodes could actually work out better for the show since that offers them a chance to do a more contained arc.
