Jane the Virgin, iZombie, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend final seasons confirmed
Some of the rumors are true when it comes to Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Meanwhile, with iZombie there is some rather sad news in general to report today.
All three of these shows are now officially entering their final seasons at The CW — in the case of Jane the Virgin and iZombie, they are ending with season 5. Meanwhile, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is ending with season 4.
The news around all of these shows is at least somewhat expected from a ratings vantage point, as they consistently are some of the lowest-rated series on the air. Yet, giving them final seasons is something that The CW has done a pretty good job at in the Mark Pedowitz era — while the network does often cancel shows in their first seasons (as many networks do), they tend to do a pretty good job of letting long-running shows finish in a way that offers some closure.
With Jane the Virgin / Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in particular, the appeal to keeping them around for as long as the network did was capitalizing on some of the fantastic critical acclaim that the two series were able to accumulate over time. However, it was clear that they were still going to come to an end eventually. That leads us to where we are right now. iZombie never had the same level of awards consideration but it did have a clear devoted audience.
In the aftermath of this news, some of what we’re hoping for now is that there are some opportunities coming up for either some of these actors or producers to work with The CW again on some other upcoming projects. One of the good things that we have seen over the years is that The CW does have a tendency to use its actors across multiple projects.
