Arrested Development season 5 to be split into two halves
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming season, which is set to be 16 episodes, will be split up into halves. The first half of the season is airing on May 29, whereas the second half is going to be coming out at some point a little bit later this fall.
What is the real reasoning for this? The biggest reason for Netflix to do something like this is rather simple in that they want to try and prolong their successful shows for his long as they possibly can. In some ways, it is a little bit ironic that the streaming service known for inventing binge-watching is now having everyone wait for a while to check out the second half of the given season; yet, this keeps people subscribed a little bit longer and in some cases that allows showrunners to finish up another batch of episodes.
If we were only getting four or five episodes of Arrested Development later this month, we would sit here and say confidently that Netflix is making a huge mistake. However, as it is it’s hard to be too upset about finally getting more of a beloved show that has been off the air for what seems like forever. We know that Netflix did recently released a re-cut version of season 4 that puts it a little bit more in line structurally with some other seasons that aired beforehand, but if you are like many other devoted fans you have probably seen the season a number of times already. Maybe that it will appeal to you for one more viewing and that’s about it.
