The Last Ship season 5 officially set to be final season

The Last Ship season 5

While there have been some rumors and discussion about this for some time, it’s now finally official: The Last Ship is going to conclude at the end of the upcoming fifth season.

This news was first confirmed via Deadline, and we really cannot say that it is a surprise. For some time now, there have been plenty of discussion surrounding a potential end for The Last Ship. As a matter of fact, many cast members have already been given the okay to go on and pursue some other projects. This is one of the reasons why Jocko Sims has officially signed on for an upcoming series and Eric Dane has been pursuing potential other projects for some time.

Is it rather sad to envision the end of the road for The Last Ship? Absolutely, given that it had a pretty amazing run on TNT. Five years is a pretty long span of time to run on a single network, especially when you have a series that is as high-concept and as explosive as this one is. They told some great, extremely ambitious stories, and based on all indications it appears as though season 5 was planned and the event that it could be the last one. TNT may have given themselves a little bit of flexibility in the event the ratings for season 4 were tremendous, but that season ended up declining versus the one that aired the premiere year.

Presumably, the final season of The Last Ship will premiere at some point in the summer. There is no official premiere date as of yet, but hopefully one is going to come sooner rather than later. We wouldn’t be altogether stocked if “summer” in this case means late summer as in August, since really a season 5 premiere date for June would have been announced by now.
