CBS open to The Big Bang Theory season 13 and beyond

Big Bang Theory season 13

While there are many signs that The Big Bang Theory season 12 is going to be the last, CBS is now making one thing abundantly clear: They are happy to keep the series going for a little while longer if the cast and crew are interested.

Today, network programming head Kelly Kahl made it clear that in terms of year-to-year performance, the sitcom may actually end up with better numbers this year than in season 10 when you factor in all DVR / streaming data. In other words, this show is every bit as successful as it has ever been. While it may have one of the largest cast payrolls out there, clearly it is able to compensate for that by performing so well in both America and the rest of the world.

Per Deadline, here is what Kahl had to say regarding her hopes that the show will continue beyond season 12:

“As long as Chuck [Lorre] and his team have stories to tell, we will take the show for as long as they want to go … We can take a few more seasons.”

The issue with making a season 13 happen starts with getting the cast all back on board — while financially they all benefit greatly from keeping the series going, we do think eventually there may come a time when everyone feels like they want to use some of that time to move on to other things. That’s one concern; meanwhile, another here is just that there would need to be negotiations with the entire cast in order to get another season. You could hope that everyone would be fine standing pat at their current contracts (which pay, at least for some of the original cast members, close to $1 million an episode), there is no guarantee that this will actually be the case.

Ultimately, we don’t think that we’re going to have to wait for too long to learn about the future of the series — The Big Bang Theory will want to write towards a fitting conclusion and we believe that a decision is going to be coming over the course of the next several months.
