Who left The Resident during its season 1 finale?
For a good while now, though, one thing has felt pretty clear: It was going to be hard for Dr. Lane Hunter to make it through the end of this season with her job intact. She was hurting patients rather than helping them, and over the course of the finale tonight Conrad and Nic finally convinced Dr. Bell to come around and see things from their side. They had enough evidence that they could put her away and, for now, that seems to have happened.
Because of the fact that Lane is now in handcuffs and seemingly on her way to prison, it makes sense to think that the character is officially gone for good. Yet, is it really that simple? We do think that there are ways in which the character could still be around, especially if we saw the characters testify at her trial. Also, there is still that crazy chance that her legal team manages to free her from this predicament given that in the world of The Resident, the good guys don’t always win. After all, Dr. Bell isn’t facing any backlash at all despite committing a lot of untoward actions over the course of the finale. Instead, he gets to celebrate a promotion while Conrad and Nic don’t get enough of the credit.
If this is the end, credit has to go to Melina for creating a character who was brilliant in her quest to make us hate her — that was the goal and with that, she was a capable villain. Who knew that we could loathe a doctor as much as we loathed Lane?
