Suits: Second City title for Gina Torres spin-off
In a post on Twitter, Jason Lynch confirms via Torres herself that this is the title for the upcoming show, which was first set up during the recent Suits season 7 finale. Much like the title Suits itself, there is an obvious double meaning here. The Second City is a nickname used for Chicago, one that originated way back around the time of the Columbian Exposition. It’s also been very much tied to a popular sketch comedy group in the city. Beyond just that, this is the second city in which Suits has been featured, so there’s where the double-meaning comes from in this case.
While we’ve gotten a decent sense already as to the world of the spin-off and some of the major characters who are going to be a part of it, at the same time there are still an abundance of different mysteries floating around out there in regards to how the stories are going to develop in the long-term. While we know, for example, that there is potential for the series to do all sorts of crossovers with the series proper, we don’t exactly get the sense that doing a lot of these is top priority. Instead, we imagine that the writers are going to focus so much more on just creating the new world of the show and making that as strong as possible. There’s always potential to do something more a little bit more down the line.
Unfortunately, there’s no firm premiere date as of yet for Suits: Second City. We would love to see the show on a little bit later this year, especially as a way to fill the void during the time in which the flagship show is off of the air.
