Lethal Weapon season 3: Fox explains Clayne Crawford exit, citing studio

Lethal Weapon season 2 promo

This morning, Fox didn’t necessarily hand down much in the way of good news for Lethal Weapon fans hoping to get some additional closure following the departure of Clayne Crawford. Yet, at the same time they did present some clarity, including that it’s false to necessarily say that they as a network are responsible for his firing. Instead, it circles back over to production company Warner Bros. TV that made the decision.

Speaking to reporters (via TVLine) on the same day that Lethal Weapon was officially put on the network’s fall schedule, Fox Television Group CEO Dana Walden had the following to say about how everything came about:

“…Our partners at Warner Bros. came to us about three weeks ago to tell us that they could not deliver Lethal Weapon as we’ve known it, that there were some real challenges in the cast … “[Warner Bros. TV] thought long and hard about it — I know that was not their first choice, but ultimately these were the circumstances that they could offer us the show.”

The third season of Lethal Weapon is now going to feature Seann William Scott as a new character, potentially someone related to Riggs so that the show can still continue to use the franchise-familiar names of Riggs and Murtaugh. There’s already been a lot of divided reactions when it comes to the hiring, but we hope that nobody blames the current cast or crew for continuing to want to move forward and have jobs this fall. Even Crawford isn’t doing that, wishing the cast the best after being reportedly booted over allegations of bad behavior on the show’s set.

We spoke yesterday about the changes in a new video, one that you can check out below. (Remember to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more insight on the subject.) In general we think that this is a rough position for the cast and crew to be in, especially since the vast majority of them are just trying now to just keep their head low and get to the other side of things.
