Last Week Tonight with John OIiver IS airing tonight after ‘shutdown’

Last Week Tonight

For those wondering if Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is coming on the air tonight after the title host “shut things down” last week, we do come bearing an answer for you.

Based on HBO’s schedule, there is going to be a new episode airing at 11:20 p.m. Eastern tonight, a little bit later than usual. However, that is not for any reason tied to the last episode; that is just due to a longer episode of Westworld coupled with some of the shows that air afterward.

While the series is coming on (there has already been a taping), HBO is doing a good job keeping the gambit going that the series is “over.” The show’s official account has not posted any customer reminders as of this writing that there is a new episode tonight and by and large, Oliver has remained fairly hush-hush.

We do agree with one part of everything Oliver said at the end of this past episode in that the series is going to have a rather hard time topping what was the end of this past episode, with what was effectively the beginning of a koala chlamydia ward started in Oliver’s name — an excellent bit of retaliation on the part of Russell Crowe after Oliver bought some of his random memorabilia at an auction to send it to one of the last remaining Blockbuster Videos in the world, located in Alaska. This is the sort of random exchange that is only possible on a show like this, which is why we love it so — even if the whole ruse of the series ending is completely silly and not exactly needed by any means.

We would imagine that soon after some sort of ridiculous exchange to start tonight’s show, things will gradually resume once more to normal.
