America’s Got Talent: The Champions may have different judging panel
While we imagine that there will be some parts of the series that are the same as the summer version, one thing may end up being different: The judging panel.
Speaking to reporters today, NBC programming head Robert Greenblatt noted (per Deadline) that Simon Cowell will once more lead the panel; however, the remainder of the roster could be announced at a later date. While it may be possible in theory that the rest of the panel (Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel) is there, the show may rebrand slightly by going in a different direction.
If it were us, what we would consider is a panel that is constituted of some judges from all over the Got Talent world. We’d love to see David Walliams from the British version or Dannii Minogue from the Australian version stop by, as they’ve both worked with Cowell before and have great chemistry with him. You could make a case to put a previous winner like a Terry Fator on there given that he’s one of the most successful winners ever, but in reality we just feel like NBC isn’t going to go in any of these directions. They’ll probably go with people with no prior affiliation with the show just for the sake of getting some big names for mainstream American viewers.
No matter who the judges are, America’s Got Talent: The Champions will premiere on NBC in January; meanwhile, the flagship show starts up later this month.
