Why Elementary was renewed for a season 7 over on CBS
We’ve already written about why the former was renewed by the network, and how one of the biggest reasons for that has to do with the show’s total viewer numbers despite getting very little promotion. Now with Elementary, it has to do with something that stems a little more international.
Since CBS owns the Jonny Lee Miller – Lucy Liu drama, what that means is that they reap a lot of licensing fees for it all over the worst — and, as you would imagine, Sherlock Holmes is a pretty darn valuable name to have at the top of a series. The character is popular all over the world, and both Miller and Liu also have very large global audiences. The streaming figures for the series alongside the international ratings keep this show alive in a way that they do very few others on CBS. Even with the show getting more expense as time goes on (and it’s never been altogether affordable to film in New York in the first place), the network continues to show great faith in Elementary and the future.
We will say this — we like the timeslot that the series is in and that’s the first time that we’ve said that in a while. Even with Elementary shifting to become more of a summer show this year we really do not mind for a number of different reasons, most notably that this fills a void at a time in which there was a major one. Everyone does need a good mystery show on the air and when it comes to the specifics of the cases, few are better than Elementary. It has a small cast, but the merit of that is mostly that these people are characters you get to know extremely well over time.
