NBC plots America’s Got Talent all-star season for the winter

America's Got Talent

Is an America’s Got Talent all-star edition something that we really needed? Not exactly, but it seems to be something that we are getting regardless.

In a new statement on Saturday, NBC confirmed that they are expanding their long-running talent competition to the winter with a show formally titled America’s Got Talent: The Champions, which is going to feature notable contestants from both the US and international editions of the show. We’re immediately of two minds about this — as someone who loves the British version of the show, we’re psyched for this. However, there’s a definite concern when it comes to diluting a brand that has become solid-gold in America — one of the best things about this series is that you miss it during the months in which it’s off the air and you don’t get too much of it. We don’t want to see this series start to lose traction in the way that The Voice has over the years. It’s one of the best reality competition shows out there for a reason — it’s consistent, but it also doesn’t overstay its welcome.

In a statement, show executive producer Simon Cowell had the following to say about the decision to have this show happen:

“I have always wanted to have a competition show for the very best of the best Got Talent acts from around the world … The variety and the talents of the acts who enter Got Talent globally are incredible and unbelievable. Since America’s Got Talent was where it all started, I’m absolutely delighted to be launching this on NBC.”

Meanwhile, NBC reality head Paul Telegdy added the following:

“Bringing the best Got Talent competitors together for this winter edition will have these favorites elevating their acts to awe and inspire audiences like never before.”
