2018-19 TV Season: New The CW series include Roswell, Charmed reboots

What’s coming up on the 2018-19 TV Season? In this edition of our Fall 2018 Preview, we’re looking at some of the shows that The CW is bringing to the air including multiple reboots and also a spin-off of The Originals. It’s not officially on the list below but its name is Legacies and it will star Danielle Rose Russell as Hope.

Take a look below at all of the new series you can expect to see on the network at some point starting this fall.

All American (Wednesdays at 9:00)

Logline – “When a rising high school football player from South Central L.A. is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High, the wins, losses and struggles of two families from vastly different worlds — Compton and Beverly Hills — begin to collide. Inspired by the life of pro football player Spencer Paysinger.”

Cast – Daniel Ezra, Taye Diggs, Samantha Logan, Bre-Z, Greta Onieogou, Monet Mazur, Michael Evans Behling, Cody Christian, Karimah Westbrook

Reaction – This series comes from super-producer Greg Berlanti and his work goes a long way; yet, sports-themed dramas don’t always have the best history save for Friday Night Lights.

Charmed (Sundays at 9:00)

Logline – “After the tragic death of their mother, three sisters in a college town are stunned to discover they are witches. Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.”

Cast – Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, Sara Jeffrey, Rupert Evans, Ser’Darius Blain, Charlie Gillespie, Ellen Tamaki

Reaction – It’s the reboot that many of the original stars didn’t want. The logline is a bit of an insult to the original. We really hope it’s good since otherwise we’d rather have Wayward Sisters.

In the Dark (midseason)

Logline – “A flawed and irreverent blind woman is the only “witness” to the murder of her drug-dealing friend. After the police dismiss her story, she sets out with her dog, Pretzel, to find the killer while also managing her colorful dating life and the job she hates at Breaking Blind, the guide dog school owned by her overprotective parents.”

Cast – Perry Mattfeld, Austin Nichols, Kathleen York, Derek Webster, Brooke Markham, Keston John

Reaction – As a legally-blind person it’s fantastic to see stories of blindness positively represented on TV. We hope this is fun. Also worth noting: Ben Stiller is an executive producer.

Roswell, New Mexico (midseason)

Logline – “After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance. Based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz.”

Cast – Jeanine Mason, Nathan Parsons, Lily Cowles, Michael Vlamis, Heather Hemmens, Michael Trevino, Trevor St. John

Reaction – It’s not just trying to be the original Roswell, and we like The Originals alum Carina Adly MacKenzie at the top of the series as showrunner.
