Saturday Night Live preview: Amy Schumer, Kacey Musgraves expectations
Before we do anything else, we do want to start off this preview with a reminder that the last time she hosted the series a few years back, following the success of Trainwreck, was a pretty solid show. Yet, now there seems to be a far more mixed reaction to her hosting going into it. It feels like opinions are so much more divided, with some people being totally for it and others threatening to watch.
There is no question that Amy is a polarizing comedian — she’s always been that. You either really like her or you really hate her and that is one of the problems going into her show this weekend. Even if she turns out to be brilliant this go-around there are going to be some people destined to hate her just because that is one of their favorite things to do: Hate on celebrities they don’t know. (For an example of what we’re talking about here, all you have to do is look at the total like / dislike ratio on the video at the bottom of this article.)

As for what we want to see over the course of this episode, the biggest thing is just some chances for Schumer to be put in positions where she can show off some of her physical comedy abilities and take on some controversial material. With her, the wrong move is to try to make everyone happy. The reputation at this point ultimately is what it is, so in her case our feeling is that she really should just lean into the curb and try to get a big reaction. She’s going to probably be counted on a lot here given that SNL may save some of their larger cameos for the upcoming finale hosted by Tina Fey.
The musical guest for the night is country singer Kacey Musgraves — a random choice, but she’s talented and should do more than fine.
