Outlander season 4: Discussing new Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin photos
A good place to start here is the image above, largely because it is so quintessential to what we know Outlander to be — there is an element of romance there, but there is also so much more. You can see within Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s eyes precisely everything that Claire and Jamie have been through. You see their history, but also more of their strength and the care that they still have for each other. You also of course can see front and center some of the latest fashion with the two now in America, which is going to be their primary setting for the new season.
There will certainly be a good amount of romance in the new season, which shouldn’t surprise anyone — yet, just remember along the way here that Outlander is so much more than just that. Even though Jamie and Claire may have found a more permanent home in North Carolina, there are still struggles that they will encounter.
Before moving forward now, a quick reminder that Outlander season 4 is premiering on Starz this November.
This image paints a very different picture for Jamie and Claire’s life out in the world and, to go along with that, shows the really marvelous job the producers have done transforming Scotland into America. If you look at this and compare it to the first three seasons, it looks distinctively different. It does also gives you a good sense that even though Jamie and Claire arrive in America with pretty much nothing, they are able to find a place for themselves before too terribly long.
One fun challenge for the crew this season: Not only do they have to find clothing for this time period for the characters, but they also have to find appropriate gear for the horses!
Finally, let’s give kudos to Starz for giving us a Richard Rankin – Sophie Skelton photo and with that, a reminder of their importance to the story. There is something rather innocent about this image and also playfully clumsy, given that Brianna clearly hit her head at some point before the photo. Luckily, she’s got Roger there to help her feel a little better!
This photo is in the show’s “present” as evidenced by the costumes and the chair that Brianna is sitting on; think of this as the calm before the storm for her, given that season 4 is going to be a trying, difficult story for her in so many ways. It’s easily the biggest season to date for Skelton as a performer, who will have a chance to tackle a wide range of material. Of course, we’re thrilled for the opportunity to learn more about Roger every step of the way.
