There’s no more need to worry about whether or not we are going to get a Santa Clarita Diet season 3. Today, Netflix officially confirmed that the comedy series, starring Drew Berrymore and Timothy Olyphant, will be back for an additional batch of episodes in 2019. The third season will consistent of ten episodes of roughly a half-hour in length.
As previously reported, there were already some additional episodes of the series in the works behind-the-scenes, at least in the writing process. With that in mind, there isn’t really anything altogether surprising about this renewal coming in right now. This is one of Netflix’s most-popular comedies (at least in terms of buzz, as the streaming provider doesn’t really offer up too much news when it comes to ratings). Beyond just that, this is also a show that is willing to push the envelope and do things that you don’t quite see anywhere else. After all, are there really any other venues at all for a series that revolves around a cannibal with a loving husband who helps her do what she needs in order to survive? It’s a strange show but also a wonderful one. It’s ridiculously funny and deserving of going on however long that it possibly can.
What does make this renewal even more impressive is the timing of it, as it comes while Netflix is being a little bit choosier these days on the subject of what shows they are interested in bringing back for another season. Their lineup is significantly more robust than it used to be and with that in mind, they do have the freedom to be slightly choosier than they once were. They can keep around the shows that they consider to be their biggest hits while determine ways to take some larger risks elsewhere.
