The Resident season 2 renewal confirmed by Fox
In a statement today, the network confirmed that the medical drama, starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp, is going to be brought back for another run of episodes. The series first began with an airing after the NFC Championship Game and beyond that, has performed reasonably well in its Monday-night timeslot. While its numbers are not indicative of a major runaway smash, it’s clearly doing well enough to make it worthy of another batch of episodes.
In a statement, Fox Broadcasting Company’s Entertainment President in Michael Thorn had the following to say:
“[Exec producers] Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan and all the producers on The Resident set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before – to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country — clearly, they’ve succeeded … Matt, Emily… and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chastain Memorial for another tremendous season.”
There is no premiere date for The Resident season 2; hopefully, there is going to be getting some more news on that subject when Fox’s upfront presentations happen.
With the renewal for this show leaves some mysteries elsewhere, including for some other shows including Gotham, Lucifer, and Lethal Weapon. With Empire, The Gifted, and 911 renewed, STAR also seems to be a sure thing at the network. We’re not so optimistic about the fate of another series in The Exorcist. Hopefully, there will be some more news on the fates of some of these shows in the near future.
